Delegates will:

  • Scrutinise the effectiveness of the NUS No Platform Policy and Universities as ‘Safe Spaces’
  • Assess the role of the Office for Students for protecting students against extremism
  • Engage with the Prevent Duty and discuss key areas for reform and improvement
  • Consider measures of restricting extremist speakers on campus whilst keeping in line with the UK’s fundamental values of free speech
  • Examine the duties of Commission for Extremism and how best to target extremism in Higher Education Institutions
  • Determine ways of eliminating extremist events on and off campus to decrease marginalisation of students
  • Discuss ways of working with student unions and staff to implement more effective mechanisms for identification and support for students at risk of radicalisation
  • Assess how to build relationships with local communities to promote cohesion and inter-faith relationships
  • Share best practice on the effective delivery of the Prevent Duty within Higher Education Institutions
